Lab Access
The lab should always be locked if no one is in there, or if someone is in an inner room with the door shut and can't be aware of what's going on in the main lab space. We have lots of specialized equipment, computers, and personal participant data that needs to be kept safe. Generally when the first person arrives in the lab for the day, they will unlock the door. The last person to leave the lab must ensure that lights are turned off, all doors are locked, the compost has been emptied, and the lab is generally tidy for the next day.
Sign-Out Key
Until you get your own personal key (or if you are a lab volunteer), you will need to use the sign-out key in the lockbox on the Side Room door to access the main lab. The code will be given to you at your Orientation. Open the lock box, use the key to unlock the main lab, then immediately return the key to the lockbox and scramble the code, so the key will be ready for the next person who needs it.
Personal Key
New Core lab members will apply for a personal lab key. The Lab Manager will generally submit the request on your behalf since the process is somewhat particular. Concordia is notoriously slow at producing keys once they have been requested, so it's a good idea to submit the request as early as possible. You will need a staff or student number before this request can be made.
Access Card
Core lab members who will be testers will apply for an after-hours Access Card, since testing sometimes happens on weekends. This is a key card that is used to access the PY building when the outside doors are locked (weekends, evenings and holidays). The Lab Manager will generally apply for this on your behalf. Before the Access Card arrives, you may have to enter campus through the SP Security entrance and check in at Security to then be granted access to the PY building, although recently it seems like the PY doors have been open on weekends.
