Determining authorship order
Authorship discussions should begin as soon as possible in the research workflow. Authorship may need to change over the course of the project as things evolve. Typically, trainees such as graduate students and postdocs are first authors for projects that they are leading. Exceptionally, undergraduates may be first authors if they take a continued role in completing the research project including writing the manuscript. Other lab members who contribute to conceptualization and writing may also be co-authors. Krista is typically senior (last) author on papers where lab members are first author. For projects that involve a collaboration with another lab, authorship may need to be determined on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about authorship, never hestiate to raise them in a constructive manner.
