Co-writing with Krista and othe co-authors and submitting a manuscript
If you are the first author of a manuscript, typically you will draft early versions of it. Depending on your experience level, you will probably want feedback early and often. You can ask for feedback on outlines, drafts of certain sections, and then eventually the entire manuscript. Krista typically gives lots of feedback which includes both line-editing and larger comments. Don't worry if your document is full of track changes!
Krista will let you know once a manuscript feels "ready" to go. At this point, you might decide to get feedback from other lab members, or send it to co-authors outside of the lab. Once Krista gives the final-go ahead, you will need to prepare the manuscript for journal submission. You will need to read the submission guidelines carefully. You will also need to create an account on the journal submission portal, and complete innumerable details that can include keywords, suggested reviewers, etc. It is a good idea to get this process going a couple of weeks before you intend to submit.
