Early Comprehension Study
We are excited to announce that we have wrapped up the first phase of our longitudinal Early Comprehension Study! Children have a remarkable ability to understand and say words from a young age, but how does this occur? Is it because children’s brains grow up and mature or is it due to the amount of language they hear over time? Additionally, we are also interested in learning more about parents’ knowledge of their children’s vocabulary. To answer these questions, we invited families with children between the ages of 8 and 31 months who hear French, English and/or Spanish to participate in a study at our lab. In this study they completed questionnaires about their baby’s vocabulary knowledge and their baby saw images of familiar objects that were labeled in their language(s).
