What do we do? (Research)

We study how babies learn language, and especially how they learn two languages at the same time! Our lab uses a range of techniques in our research, including:

  • infant eye-tracking (looking-while-listening)

  • headturn preference procedure (HPP) and habituation

  • parental questionnaire data (language mixing, vocabulary inventories, etc.)

  • large-scale collaborations (e.g., ManyBabies)

  • direct observation of parents and children during reading or playing sessions

  • and more!

The lab is committed to Open Science practices, and all our data analyses are done in the R statistical programming language. We pre-register our studies and make all scripts, datasets and stimuli available on the Open Science Framework (OSF) upon article submission. We also upload pre-print versions of our articles.
