Open source - the lab chooses open source options whenever possible (R and RStudio, Gimp, etc.)
Open science - OS is the practice of scientific research ensuring that all processes and products involved in the research process are available and accessible to all people without barriers. The lab follows this open scientific model, consisting of honest and transparent practices such as using open-source software, pre-registering studies, publishing pre-prints, and sharing datasets openly. Other open science practices you might be interested in are open educational resources, open labs, open notebooks, open innovation, open evaluation, open hardware, and citizen science. In Canada, implementing open science practices is rapidly becoming a crucial priority. For example, the envisions a complete transition to an open-by-design and by-default model by 2025, and this transition is already underway with policies being promoted by federal and provincial funding agencies (important to consider when applying for funding!).For an overview of open science and how to foster its implementation, you can refer to this article:
