WebCDI

WebCDI is an online platform that allows us to adminster the Words and Gestures or Words and Sentences CDI questionnaire to parents through a link. In the lab, parents complete this on an iPad, but in some studies the link will be sent to parents to fill out on their own time.

Using WebCDI

A. Lead researcher must add the study to Web CDI:

  1. Log into Web CDI

  2. Click the blue "New Study" button

  3. The study name should be: StudyName (Questionnaire Name) [for example, "Segment-8 (Mot et Gestes)" -- note that you will have to create two Web CDIs for each study, one with the French version of the CDI, and one with the English version]

  4. Drag the sliders to encapsulate the age range for the study. For example, if your study is for ages 7m 15d to 10m 15 d, then you would drag the sliders to 7 and 11, so that the whole range is captured.

  5. You can leave the expiration date as is

  6. You can leave the birth weight measurement as is

  7. Don't add anything to the Waiver of Documentation text

  8. Leave the pre-fill option as is

  9. Uncheck the "would you like to show participants graphs of data after completion?" -- so all boxes are unchecked

  10. Click the blue "Submit" button

B. Administering the CDI:

  1. Log into Web CDI, either on a desktop computer or an iPad

  2. Click the Study dropdown and choose the study and language for the CDI you want to administer

  3. Click the white "Add Participants" box (not the little arrow, but click the actual words)

  4. In the "New Subject Ids" field, enter the BABY ID for the participant(s)

  5. Click the blue "Submit" button (if the popup does not submit correctly and won't close, please take note of the computer and browser you are using and try on a different machine--sometimes this doesn't work if you aren't using the most up-to-date version of an operating system or browser.

  6. Once you see the baby ID you just entered appear in the list,

  7. For longitudinal studies, edit the "local lab ID" by clicking the blue text that reads "None" in the "local lab ID" column, and update with the recording name (ex. BabysNewWords_S001_month7)

  8. click the blue "link" text to open the CDI [or if you were using a desktop computer, then log into Web CDI on the iPad (there is an app shortcut on the home screen called "Web CDI" for this) and choose your study, then click the blue "link" text]

  9. Give the iPad to the parent to fill out

  10. Once they are done, close Web CDI and open it again to make sure there is a checkmark beside the Subject ID under the "Completed" heading to show that it was completed successfully

C. Saving the data:

  1. Find the Subject ID for the participant who just filled out the CDI, and click the checkbox next to their ID

  2. Click "Download Selected Data"

  3. Choose the first option, "Download Selected Data (CSV/All)"

  4. Move the file to the data folder for your study on the KBH server

  5. Rename the file in the following manner: StudyName_StudyID_BabyID_EN or StudyName_StudyID_BabyId_FR depending on the language of the CDI that was filled out. You can open the file in Excel or something to check that the data looks good.

  6. NOTE: You may alternatively save all participant data at various time points (e.g. choosing to download all the data once a month). This is particularly useful for longitudinal studies with many participants. In this case, you would ignore all previous steps, and simply click "Download Data" and then "Download Data (CSV Format)".
