Problems with Zimbabwe (the computer that controls the study):
The computer & monitor are on but screen in the main lab data room is grey/black/blue and doesn’t show the cursor o Most likely problem: the computer sometimes forgets that the screen in the data room is the “main screen” and instead assigns one of the screens in the infant room to be the “main screen” o Solution: check the screens in the infant room, follow the instructions on that screen to start windows (either have someone in the infant room direct your mouse cursor or open OBS on Washington to see the screen there)
You don’t see the mouse cursor on the screen in the main lab data room. o It’s on one of the three other screens in the infant room. Use a helper or obs to get it back on your screen (see notes at the end of this document for help)
No sound during trial in the infant room o Check sound level on Zimbabwe and that the computer is not muted
One of the side screens in infant room flickers or shows “no input” o Check that the cables are firmly connected (be careful not to move the screens from their position! o Restart Zimbabwe. That’s the best thing I know to do. Try to get someone to talk to the parent (do LEQ, CDI) while you troubleshoot Problems with Washington (the computer that records the study)
OBS doesn’t show one of the screens Here is what the screen usually looks like (one big feed from the baby camera, three little images showing the left, center, right monitor below) Here is what the screen looks like when one of the monitor feeds is missing (here, it is the center monitor)
o Check all cable connections & restart Washington o If this does not resolve the problem, you need to add the monitor manually. Click on the “+” under the list of video sources, and type in the name of the feed you’re trying to re-create then select the correct device
Baby Camera: 00-0 Pro Capture Quad HDMI
Left Monitor: 00-2
Center Monitor: 00-1
Right Monitor: 00-3
The harddrive ran out of space and my recording didn’t finish correctly
If the harddrive runs out of space during the recording of a testing session, this will result in a corrupted video file – if you see the harddrive running out of space talk to the lab manager, senior grad students or Krista to figure out how to free up space
If you lose the mouse on Zimbabwe What you see below is how the layout of the four screens connected to Zimbabwe is (1 control screen, 3 screens in HPP room). If you accidentally move the mouse too low on the Zimbabwe Control screen, it will disappear onto the right screen in the HPP room (left screen on OBS). You should then be able to see a tiny white dot on the OBS screen as well. If you move it left from that screen, you will see it pop up on the center screen in the HPP room, etc.
So, if your mouse cursor is lost and you see it as a tiny white dot on OBS, do the following based on where it appears on OBS: Left OBS screen: move mouse up Center OBS screen: move mouse right until it appears on the left screen, then move up Right OBS screen: move mouse left until it appears on the left screen, then move up
