Funding packages tend to consist of different sources, including internal awards, external funding, TA work, etc.
Universities usually offer internal awards and scholarships, some of which consider candidates automatically upon application, while others require candidates to submit an additional application.
Applications for provincial and federal funding are due in the Fall (between October and December), so you will need to work on them as you work on your grad school applications. You would choose which agency (social, health, or natural sciences) to apply based on your research proposal; checking potential supervisors' funding can be helpful when deciding.
Note: international students may be eligible for provincial funding but not for federal funding. Check the agencies' eligibility criteria before applying to make sure you meet the requirements.
International PhD students can apply to the , a provincial funding program dedicated to foreign students. The application is due in the summer.
