The assistant to the dean of psychology (psychology@concordia.ca) is the psychology department's telephone VoIP coordinator. At some point in the process, you may need to send the assistant an email (cc Krista) to prove that Krista authorizes adding a new phone line on her behalf.
To add a phone line to the lab, you have to open a ticket with IITS stating your needs. They should reply with some questions they'll need you to answer, such as the grant code the phone will be paid from, whether you'll need long distance and/or voicemail, and the jack # of the room you'd like to add the phone to. More information can be found , but note that some of the information is slightly out of date.
You may also want to move an existing phone line to a new room or location. In this case, you will need to email IITS asking them to activate the jack in the new location, and disactivate the jack in the previous location. Jack activation costs $25.
Alternatively, if you'd like to be able to move the phone from room to room (i.e., if you only need one phone line, but would like to use it in two locations), you can ask IITS to activate a "switch port". This allows the same phone line to be powered through two jacks. Then, you can simply move the phone back and forth at your own will.
Concordia offers remote connection to lab/office phone lines via a computer/phone app called CISCO Jabber. This app requires set up with IITS, who will ask you to provide the following information:
employee net name
device type they will use
extension of the Concordia phone you would like to connect to
Once you've set up the connection with IITS, they will send you an instruction manual on how to access CISCO Jabber from your device of choice. To connect to the phone line remotely, you must be connected to the Concordia VPN. Then, you will be able to make and receive calls from your personal computer, and recipients will see the Concordia phone number on the incoming call.
As of September 2024, IITS has requested that the department's VOIP coordinator (psychology@concordia.ca) make the request on our behalf as they have signing authority over the budget (even though setting up a CISCO jabber profile is a free service). Search IITS ticket number 1025638 in the coordinator email if documentation is needed.
