# Post-Doc

The [Concordia website](https://www.concordia.ca/sgs/postdoctoral-fellows/international-postdocs.html) has the core info on the subject.

If you are not canadian or a permanent resident of Canada, you will probably come as a temporary feoreign worker. The first thing you will most likely need before applying for a work visa is a LMIA exemption number. This number is provided by Concordia (they are responsible for paying the fee for this document).

Once you have the LMIA number, check the worker visa requirements on the Canadian consulate from your country. Each country has a different requirement for such status and it can be a costly and somewhat long process. Plan ahead!

Once you arrive in Montreal, make sure to register with the postdoc office. You will need to provide a form along with some supporting documents. You can find more information aboutConcordia's procedures and forms [here](https://www.concordia.ca/sgs/postdoctoral-fellows/procedures-forms.html).

Also ask the postdoc office about an exemption for provincial taxes; international postdocs may be eligible, but you have to register every year before tax deadlines.
